I get a fair amount of appreciation for the kernels I roll. It
probably ends up being about 50 hours per year of work directly on the
build system. About 10 of those are voluntary. In the end, I get paid
an hourly rate for most of it. The people I consult for are happy to
be making this indirect contribution to Linux-Vserver.

What I do is very small amount compared the Herbert and Daniel's
contributions. How many hours would you say you'd put in in the last
year Herbert and Daniel? How many of those are voluntary?

Thankyou Herbert, we build our business on the back of the patches you
turn out. I'm not really literary enough to express well in words how
important that is to us, and by us I mean the big companies, the
little companies and me personally that have all been helped massively
by the Vserver kernel patch and util-vserver. Amazing work, many many
thanks.

Words of encouragement for Herbert are important, but we need to
remember that a community gets its strength from the sum of the input
of all its members, and if one of the founder members is feeling
downtrodden, and with good reason, we should all step up to help more.
Here, IMHO are the areas that would have the most impact for
Linux-Vserver:

* Testing kernels and new features
* Improving documentation
* libvirt support
* Providing hard cash and hardware

If you want a feature or a level of support you aren't getting, if
there's a boundary to adopting vserver put up by lack of
documentation, lack of code, whatever it is, get your company to pay
you, or pay for, that feature. This is the lightest, simplest, most
functional virtual server environment of its kind that Linux has at
the moment, so lets all give some more input.

My own personal project for this year is to get a kernel built using
the Debian build system, for better integration into that OS. I really
want to help Linux-Vserver overcome some adoption hurdles this year.

Cheers,
Ben
