Hi Arjen, hi all,
first of all thanks to all that responded to my problem so far.
> Does /var/run/mysqld/mysqld.sock exist, is it owned by user mysql?

> mysqld isn't running)
I have tried this as well (that's now inside the vserver):
# ls /var/run/mysqld/mysqld.sock -la
ls: /var/run/mysqld/mysqld.sock: No such file or directory
# touch /var/run/mysqld/mysqld.sock
# chown mysql:mysql /var/run/mysqld/mysqld.sock
# ls /var/run/mysqld/mysqld.sock -la
-rw-r--r-- 1 mysql mysql 0 May 26 04:11 /var/run/mysqld/mysqld.sock
Now I am starting MySQL with networking enabled:
# mysqld --skip-innodb --user=mysql --pid-file=/var/run/mysqld/mysqld.pid
--socket=/var/run/mysqld/mysqld.sock --log-error=/var/log/mysql/mysqld.err
--basedir=/usr --datadir=/var/lib/mysql --tmpdir=/tmp
--language=/usr/share/mysql/english --skip-locking
--set-variable=key_buffer=16M --set-variable=max_allowed_packet=1M
--set-variable=thread_stack=128K --bind-address=10.0.1.20 --port=3306
--log=/var/log/mysql/mysql.log --console --log-warnings
050526 4:11:46 Can't start server : Bind on unix socket: Address already in
use
050526 4:11:46 Do you already have another mysqld server running on
socket: /var/run/mysqld/mysqld.sock ?
050526 4:11:46 Aborting
050526 4:11:46 mysqld: Shutdown Complete
Now without any networking:
# mysqld --skip-innodb --user=mysql --pid-file=/var/run/mysqld/mysqld.pid
--socket=/var/run/mysqld/mysqld.sock --log-error=/var/log/mysql/mysqld.err
--basedir=/usr --datadir=/var/lib/mysql --tmpdir=/tmp
--language=/usr/share/mysql/english --skip-locking
--set-variable=key_buffer=16M --set-variable=max_allowed_packet=1M
--set-variable=thread_stack=128K --skip-networking
--log=/var/log/mysql/mysql.log --console --log-warnings
050526 4:12:11 Can't start server : Bind on unix socket: Address already in
use
050526 4:12:11 Do you already have another mysqld server running on
socket: /var/run/mysqld/mysqld.sock ?
050526 4:12:11 Aborting
050526 4:12:11 mysqld: Shutdown Complete
The error message remains the same. I have another (dummy) vserver which I use
to create new ones and inside this vserver MySQL is just running fine. Any
more ideas?
Thanks a lot and all the best,
Werner.
