vrpm is just a wrapper for rpm program in your installation.
did you upgrade your rpm in your rh80 install to the rpms mentioned in
an earlier post (fixing rpm hangs in rh80)?
you can get them here: ftp://people.redhat.com/jbj/test-4.1
use these in your rh80 cd, and atleast rpm works fine.
